Dear Bloggers,
I am writing on behalf of Dr. Babula who is running for Congress in Maryland’s 4th district. Albert Wynn and Donna Edwards fail recognize the important questions that face the American economy today, so this blog is attempting to bring more attention to this subject matter. The blog aims to argue on behalf of Dr. Babula’s stance on the legalization of drugs and prove its value. Although it appears drastic, it makes solid economic sense and could potentially bring a vast amount of benefits to the people of Maryland and the United States.
Maryland’s 4th congressional district is a place high crime rates and murders, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Much like the wave of criminal actions after the United States banned alcohol, the current illegalization of drugs only creates an environment tailor made for criminals. The drugs are illegal, so the supply is very low, creating a high demand. These criminals take on the risk, and therefore can charge more and make more profit. If it is legal, the risk is gone, and so the incentive and profit goes away. This year, the United States will arrest 1.6 million people for drug law enforcement violations because the low supply creates criminal activity; people steal and even murder for drugs. If the supply is high they will not need to stoop to those actions. In addition, the available supply of drugs does not mean that more people will become users. After the prohibition on alcohol was lifted, everyone did not become alcoholics. For example, the average per capita consumption of alcohol today has been reduced to its lowest level in history. Ultimately, the legalization of would reduce crime rates and improve the quality of life in the inner cities[i].
In addition, the US is spending approximately $600 per second on the war on drugs, and the results are minimal. Many people believe the war on drugs in the US has failed and a new strategy is required[ii]. In addition, a great deal of money is then spent to incarcerate those same people. The prisons are overflowing and it does nothing but anger and depress the criminals, sending them straight back to drugs. If a small portion of the money squandered on the war on drugs actually went towards the community then there would be less problems. People would not be as hopeless and would be more willing to go to a clinic and receive help if they have an addiction.
Finally the legalization of drugs could do a great deal of good. For current users, drugs are considered to be an inelastic product; they will still buy drugs if the price slightly increases. This means that the government could tax these drugs, much like any other product, and that money could be put towards beneficial causes and programs.
Thank you very much for your time and I hope you appreciated reading my argument. Society is constantly changing, and now is not the time to fear change. Vote for Babula.

Great insight into the 4th District Congressional race in Maryland.
Well said, I agree completely. I argued the same points and I think that legalizing drugs will help provide some positive steps in restoring the economy.
Legalizing drugs in the US will only be beneficial to the economy. The crime rates will decrease with Babula's plan. Vote Babula!
I do see the realistic economic benefits from legalizing drugs in the 4th district, but I could see potential problems. Dealers would cross the country in order to buy these drugs at reduced prices and then would return to their cities to sell them at higher prices. The legalization of drugs certainly has its ups, but its downs could be crippling.
super great job.......the blog speaks of truth.
this writer is pure genious
Dr. Babula is a very courageous candidate who isnt afraid to tackle such issues as the legalization of drugs. His economic brilliance will propel him through the election!
